Anime Addiction : Angel Beats!

Image
Sometimes I think I need to see a psychologist because I have a feeling that I like to inflict emotional trauma on myself. The thing I am referring to here is the fact that I continue to watch something even when I get the feeling that I am going to be a crying ball of nothingness. I know that I am going to tear up every time I watch Hachiko , but I still do it anyway. Angel Beats is one such show. Going into it I knew that it was famous for being a really powerful and tear-jerking anime. But, me being me, I thought to myself “I ain’t gonna cry, what am I, a kid?” and in the end still ended up tearing up anyway. Angel beats follows Otonashi as he wakes up in a high-school at night and there is a girl next to him, Yuri, with a sniper rifle trained at another girl, who is apparently an Angel. From then on the story unfolds and we find out that this is sort of a place where dead teens come to and Yuri is the leader of a squad who want to confront “God” and ask him why they...

Random Talk : How the hell do I do it?

Image
One of the biggest questions that I get is how I get the time to do all the things that I do, and as perplexing as it is for me to consider it a proper question, now that I think about, I do an absurd amount of content consumption in very short period of time. If I were to be honest, I would say that I have no idea how I do all that I do in a short amount of time, but since I am someone who enjoys a lot of research, at least when it comes to wasting time, I kept track of everything that I do I was surprised that I found a pattern. I write about a lot of things in this small blog of mine, but there are so many things that I don’t write about too. What I will attempt to do with this post is to bring light to a few of those things and how I consume so much content in a short frame of time, without constantly being called out for wasting time. Let’s start with how I consume all the music that I listen to. I have a weird habit of never having a constant playlist. There are a...

Random Talk : Screw you Writer's Block...

Image
There are a lot of things I hate in this world, and I am sure that most of you will agree with me on the things that I hate. I can list them all and you will all agree with almost all of them. But the thing that I hate the most is something that is a foreign concept to most people. No, it isn’t some obscure disease which affects just a few people in the world, nor is it something downright weird. The thing that I am referring to is the “inability of a person to produce creative pieces of work even when everything is conducive for the production of said work, but for the life of them the person doesn’t know why they can’t produce that work.” In short, this is commonly called “Writer's Block” Maybe I am exaggerating, or maybe I am being too over the top, but somehow I have grown to hate writers block more than anything in my life. What makes it so bad is the fact that you don’t have any idea when it will strike. And most of the times, when it does strike, it strikes in co...

Anime Addiction : Anime Subbed VS Anime Dubbed

Image
I know it has been some time since I have posted something substantial or at all really, but I will address it in another post. In this post I want to address one of the biggest rivalries in the history of anime. English Sub or English Dub. To put in a more detailed manner; I want to address the two sides of the coin. Should you watch anime with subtitles or should you watch anime which has been dubbed into English, or any other language for that matter. Let’s forget about anime for a second here. I am a guy who watches a lot of films from other languages, and most of the time, it is a language that I do not know. Some of my favorite movies are from countries like Russia, Germany, France and Sweden. That being said I also watch and, sometimes, even enjoy more regional and national films; say Tamil films, Malayalam films or Hindi Films. Heck I have even watched a film in Telugu just to see how over the top it can get, and trust me guys, they have anime beat in that aspect. For...

The Dramatic Arts : Poruthathu Podhum

Image
Poruthathu Podhum, written and directed by “Bombay” Chanakya, is an extremely socially relevant play, almost to the point of it being a social commentary. With the entire buzz surrounding the murder of Swathi, the play follows a similar storyline and, in essence, asks the question about why such atrocities happen in society. It has been sometime since I have reviewed a drama, so to,0 recap I will point out the faults for which I am reducing points clearly, unless it spoils a very important plot point. Without any further ado, here is my review for Poruthathu Podhum Written and Directed by – Bombay Chanakya Set & lights –Studio Seven – Victor Pauraj & Mohan Music – Guhaprasath Make up – Perambur Kumar Audio -                 Narada Gana Sabha Stage managers – Gowrishankar & Gopi Voices – Mridula Jayaram, DR Sharmila, Sandhya Sundar, Sangeethakumar, Hospitality – Kav...
