Random Talk: Best recent commercial Indian films

Image
Many people think that I am unfair towards Indian movies and in most of the cases this is true. This is not because I don't like Indian directors or because I am not used to watching Indian movies. This is simply because there are not really that many good films in the Indian film market. This is mainly because we, as Indians, refuse to think out of this small box created by cultural restrictions. That and the need to see scantily clad women, on screen begging to be rescued by the all powerful gravity defying hero. If you think I am wrong then please tell me how many heroines who appear on screen today can actually act. Probably about six or seven. And that is if I am being optimistic. Unfortunately this has led to a dumber audience. We have lowered our expectations so much, that we go to the theaters to watch our favorite heroes take on similar roles, speak punch lines and rescue said women, than to actually care about the characters and invest in the story. Le...

Trial and Error: Unchained

Image
This is my third short story that I have posted guys and the first one I have posted that is my own brain-child. Please do keep in mind, that this story is very dark, and may be uncomfortable for some people to read. That being said, please let me know what you guys think, and I will see you guys tomorrow, with at least another three new articles!! Peace.               The room smelled of death. No no, it reeked of death. Wading through the ankle high water, the detective shone his  flash-light  into the darkest corners of the basement, hoping to find at least a part of a body that wasn't rotten. It seemed hopeless. This hell hole had been sealed up and flooded for who knows how long. The deeper he went into the darkness the stronger the stench became.            The detective had seen a lot of macabre things in his life. Bloated bodies? Yup. Burnt? Sure. Mutilated? Frequently. But then th...

Movie Review: Lucy

Image
Lucy is a science fiction film written and directed by Luc Besseon. It stars Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman and a few other people who you might recognize. Point is Scarlett Johansson is the only character who matters. This review is going to be different from my other reviews. I won’t be splitting it into sections. It is just going to be a review with a verdict at the end. You may think this is because I am lazy, but this is actually because this film doesn’t have a plot. Yup, there is no story to the movie. The movie purely exists to show Scarlett Johansson do cool stuff as her brain capacity increases from 10 percent to 20 to 30 to 40 and finally 100. That is basically the story. There is a small subplot, but I stick with what is said in the beginning, this movie exists purely so that we can see Scarlett Johansson kick ass. The cinematography is good and the CGI is, at best, okay. Again it all ties into the fact that there is no story to relate all the v...

Movie Review: Begin Again

Image
Begin again is a 2013 musical drama written and directed by John Carney. It stars Mark Ruffalo, Keira Knightly, Adam Levine and Hailee Steinfield. This is John Carneys second musical, after his award-winning musical romance “Once”, and although not as good as “Once” was, it is a film definitely worth checking out. I particularly liked this movie because it almost accurately portrays what goes on in the music industry. As a person who comes from a family of musicians, I know what goes on behind all the cameras and fame. There are literally thousands of people who deserve a shot at success but aren’t allowed one because what they do isn’t trendy enough, or it isn’t something which the crowd listens to. But this talk is for another article, o...

Movie Review: Interstellar

Image
Interstellar is a science fiction movie written by Jonathan Nolan and directed by Christopher Nolan .(Yup, they are brothers) It stars Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, and *spoiler alert!!* Matt Damon. This is Nolan’s first outing as a science fiction director, and to say the least he has done a fantastic job. There are so many great things about this movie, that they mostly outweigh the negatives. But keep in mind, Nolan Fans, this movie does have a few negatives. So please don’t expect me to shower praise endlessly, I will be stating what I didn’t like about the film. SCREENPLAY This movie has a really good screenplay, and not one dialogue seemed out of place or unnecessary, or like it was exposition, for that matter. The banter between the protagonists is realistic, and there are a few well written jokes, which I liked. One thing I really liked was the father daughter dynamic between the character Murphy, and her father, Cooper. And most ...
