Book Review: The Ink-heart Trilogy
Hey people of the Internet!!! So it’s
been a while since I have posted any review and there is a valid reason for was………
no there is no valid reason, just plain old laziness. That apart, I have always
wanted to review a book. One post for one book. But as it so happened the book
I want to review happens to be the last book of a trilogy. So I guess I have to
review the trilogy. Without further ado, here is my review of the Ink-heart trilogy
written by Cornelia Funke.
So like most people who read books,
this was recommended to me by my senior from 12th grade. She gave me the first
two books of the trilogy Ink-heart and Ink-spell.
Although the premise is simple the plot is
not. A guy has powers which can bring any character out of a book he reads and
send someone from our world into the book. But the plot is riddled with layers
of fantasy, romance (not much) action, and adventure and to top it off lessons
of what is morally right and wrong.
The characters are Meggie-a teenage
girl, Mortimer or Mo (in short)-her father, Dustfinger-a fire-dancer, Farid-one
of the forty thieves, who has been read out of his book by, Mo Elenoir - Meggie’s
grand aunt, Resa – Meggie’s mother and a few other small characters thrown here
and there. So, all in all a huge ensemble. And Cornelia does wonders with them.
Although I didn’t read the German version (I don’t know to read German) I read
the English version and I also want to appreciate the translator for bringing the
true feel and the meaning of the story even in the translated text.
Another thing I really liked about the book is
that it addresses your worst fears in subtle way. So here are the
GOOD STUFF:
The plot is solid. There are no
hiccups, and the writing is solid too so, no complaints there. The characters
are likeable and relatable and there are no unwanted characters. What I really
liked, especially in the last book, is that towards the end it brings up a
great question…… if we can go the world where a book written by somebody, who
has written us here? That’s the good
stuff. The book is a compelling read and I would recommend any competent reader
to read it.
THE BAD STUFF:
Now there are not really that many
complaints from me, but the pacing is a bit uneven. The story peaks in parts
and lies dormant in others. And there are some unwanted parts which only
provide extra information, instead of adding to the whole plot. One other thing
is that the ending did not satisfy me too much. But these should not stop from
enjoying this wonderful trilogy.
THE FINAL VERDICT:
A particularly good trilogy I have read in recent times and I
give it a competent score of 7.5/10.
This book impressed me and left me wanting for more. I’d recommend it for
anybody who is interested in reading things like harry potter and the like. I will
try to get another movie review up soon, guys. And as always
PEACE!!!
