Ear-buds of Music - 31/5/2016

Of all the topics regarding entertainment that I have covered in my blog thus far, of course along with all those random stuff in between too, I have always stayed away from one topic. While I have not spoken about this thing much, it plays a really important role in my life. I go to sleep and wake up to it. It’s with me pretty much all the time.

If you still haven’t figured it out, the thing I am talking about is music. There is a specific reason why I don’t talk about music. It is probably the most subjective of all forms of art out there. Nobody can actually define what good music is. It’s all a matter of what someone likes. I can guarantee that no two people will have the exact same taste in music.

Before I get to the main part of the article, I want to write about some of my experiences with music. Some people may know this and others may not, my family has had a long history with music. My grandfather has made music for stage plays and movies. My Dad makes his living as a music teacher and by producing music for dramas and movies. My brother knows how to play the keyboard. My mother knows how to sing and I have been part of a choir.

But I have no formal training in music. I have no knowledge of Raghas, Shruthis or any other musical term you can think of.  This means that I can never critically analyze music. I can never say that this Thalam must not be sung in this Ragha. But what I can do is listen to music. Lots of it. So much so, that I was spoiling drivers in expensive earphones by listening to music on high volumes on long periods of time. To sustain this habit of mine, I switched to using really cheap ear buds, which I burn through at about one pair every two months or so.

Unlike most people I know, while I have preferences, there are very few genres of music I don’t listen to. I listen to everything from classical to death metal. I even listen to songs from other languages. The one genre I avoid is heavy dub-step. Somehow, while I got on board with Lindsey Stirling, dub-step never got to me. My preferred genres are classical, light metal, alternative, and acoustic. I am also a fan of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

So, seeing as a random Tuesday is a really good place to start my newest series of articles, here is what I’m going to do. Every Tuesday I will share seven songs, one for each day of the week, from seven different genres. I’ll write a few sentences about why I like them, and I’ll also add a link to where you can find them. I will be posting this list every Tuesday, irrespective of whether or not I wrote a post for that day.

So starting today, here are seven songs I want you guys to listen to.

Sweet Dreams are Made of This – Eurythmics

This song has been stuck in my head ever since I watched X-Men Apocalypse. Maybe it is the beat or maybe its Annie Lennox’s voice; there is just something about this song which makes it so appealing.

9^th Symphony – Ludwig Van Beethoven

I don’t know why whenever I think of Beethoven I think of the 9^th Symphony, even though the 5^th symphony is so much more popular. Something about the orchestra, the flow of the music and the feel just leaves me astounded every time I hear it.

Heartlines (Acoustic version) – Florence and the Machine

This is one of those songs which I had on repeat for a long time. While the original version has more punch to the music, I appreciate the intimacy that comes with the acoustic version

Ok, to be honest I have no idea why this is on the list. But here it is, and I have to explain why. Maybe it is because of the fast beat or maybe it’s because of the voices or maybe it’s because of the dance. I have no clue. All that I know is that I like it a lot.

Another Beautiful Mistake – Hannah Trigwell

I did share this song on Facebook because not only did I like the song, but also the video for the song. I like the beat, the guitar, and most importantly the voice.

Pretender – Foo Fighters

A classic all out rock song, Pretender has a lot of great guitar playing, great beats and most importantly, great screaming. Check it out if you’re in a rock mood.

Lindsey Stirling has been one of my favorite Youtubers for the past five years and one of my favorite songs is Spontaneous Me. I love this song so much, because it encapsulates everything about her talent and personality into one song.
