Ear-buds of Music - 14/6/2016
Yup, that’s right, I have
returned this week; and that too on time! What a surprise! No but seriously, I
know that my schedule is getting haphazard again, but I am pretty certain that
the number of articles I am putting up in a day makes up for the days I don’t
post on.
The reason is not because I don’t
have time, or because I am sick. It is simply because writers block is a huge,
goddamn “B”. I know you understand what I mean. I will really want to write
something, but somehow, however much I beg my muse, it just won’t let me.
Oh and it may also be partly
because I was suffering from a lack of sleep. But all reasons aside, I am back
now and I am still fully functioning.
Now that I have gotten my usual,
poorly constructed excuses out of the way, let’s move on to the seven songs I
want you guys to listen to this week
Shatter Me –
Izzy Hale, Lindsey Stirling
Genre: Rock,
Dub-step
Aside from the fact that this
song features my favorite female rock vocalist and it features Lindsey Stirling’s
dynamic violin playing, this is the song which, along with Lindsey’s other
stuff, convinced me that there is actually good music in dub-step. Definitely
check it out if you are a fan of really powerful vocals. Alternatively you
could also check out the acoustic version of Apocalyptic from Haelstorm
featuring none other than Izzy Hale.
All of Me –
Jon Schmidt; not John Legend
Genre:
Instrumental
I know that all of you are
disappointed that it is not the John Legend version, but trust me on this one.
It is not the same song in fact it doesn’t even have vocals. It is a piano
peace from one of my favorite pianists of all time. It is melodious, touching
and exiting all at the same time. I am sure he gave his all in composing this
piece. Be sure to check it out.
Iris – A cover
of the original by Clarrisa Kelly (TuoniGuitar)
Genre:
Alternative
I know that this is a cover and
not the original song, but somehow, this is the one I choose to listen. It has
a much more raw and authentic feel to it. It may not sound the greatest, but I
have a feeling that it will stick to most of you. It also helps that the vocals
are really good and so is the guitar playing. It was a hard choice between most
of Clarissa’s songs but in the end I went with the one which introduced me to
this amazing amateur artist.
Apotheosis –
Austin Wintory
Genre:
Orchestral
I know that I am cheating with
this entry as it can be argued that All of Me is also orchestral, but I just
have to include this. The reason behind this is because this piece was the
first to make me shed tears. I experienced it for the first time when I was
playing Journey, and I just remember sitting there, tears streaming down my
face, because I was so overwhelmed by the music. Many other classical pieces
have made me tear up, but this was the first one. I do not know if this will
have the same effect on everyone but I just felt that it was something that I
must share.
Come on Eileen
– Dexy’s Midnight Runners
Genre: New
Wave, Celtic Folk, retro
I have a feeling that this song
perfectly encapsulates the 80’s. It is fun, upbeat and has really weird vocals.
But is all seriousness, it is one of my favorite songs. This is like my
personal pep-me-up. Every time I listen to this song, I will probably sing
along with a weird smile on my face. It’s just that awesome. Oh, in case you
are wondering, no I did not discover it through Perks of Being a Wallflower. I
was into retro music for a long time before I saw that movie. If you do want
another retro alternative, I would try Lady in Red.
Santa Monica Dream
– Angus and Julia Stone
Genre:
Folk-Rock
This song is a depressing one.
And by depressing, I mean really depressing. It is about losing your dreams,
and it holds a really special place in my heart. It is slow, it is broken and
it is authentic. I found this song through the game Life is Strange, and the
game itself has a really powerful sound track, which I recommend you guys check
out.
Blank Space –
Taylor Swift
Genre: Pop
This song is guilty pleasure of
mine. And it is a Taylor Swift song. I don’t really think I have to say much
more to convince you that you have to listen to it. It also helps that the
production quality behind the music video is nothing short of spectacular.
So there you go; seven songs for
the week. Though if I am being honest there are more than seven songs in this
list, but I am sure that fact can be overlooked. Let me know what you guys like
and if you have some songs which you think other people might enjoy, leave them
in the comments below.
Until next time:
Peace!!!
