Random Talk : Controversially Random and Surprisingly Original

Before I begin, just know that my picture choice is completely random.

With all my posts I plan out at least the basic structure before putting my thoughts up on the computer screen, because that makes sure that I cover all the points I want. But with this post it is really different because I have no plans for how this post is going to go. This is because this is a writing exercise, and at the same time it is a rant about a lot of things. I apologize in advance if this post turns out to be too short or too long compared to my other ones. But if it does turn out to be around the same length as my other posts, then all well is and a good.

The first topic I want to discuss is plagiarism. Now, I am fortunate enough to have not experienced this first hand, at least not to the worst degree that it happens now-a-days. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the word, plagiarism is the process of re-posting someone else’s work as your own and not crediting the original creator. Now I want to draw a clear distinction between plagiarism and ghost writing. Ghost writing is when someone agrees to give all the credit their work gets to someone else. This usually happens when someone has a really great idea but lack the ability or skill to express them in the way that they envision them.

I have ghost written for a few of my friends, not only in the field of writing, but also drawing. But plagiarism is another beast all together. One of my close friends experienced plagiarism in a really bad way, and the effect it had was large enough for me not to ignore it. I am glad to say that the person who stole his work apologized publicly , but that does not excuse him in any way for stealing someone else’s hard work.

Now, mostly the type of plagiarism that I have experienced is very minor compared to some of the stuff that goes on out there. For example, I may type a comment and I will get some likes. Then another guy comes along, copies and pastes my comment and walks away with loads of likes just because he has been on the website for long, or because he has a larger following.
All of this has led me to believe that, to quote one of my best friends, “Originality is overrated.” But this is also one reason why you will never see me sharing memes or sharing something anybody has shared unless it is something which is very personal to me, like a family photograph. I always strive to find new and different stuff to share with the people who follow me, because being an amateur writer and creator, I do believe that if the same things get shared by everybody, something special will not get the attention it deserves.

Now that I have finished my rant on that topic, let me move on to the next one, feminism. Oh, we are tackling a big one here! First off I want to go on record and say that I am a humanist. I believe that people of all genders and races must be treated equally. I am not a feminist. At least not a third wave feminist. I am all for equality, but everywhere I see, the only version of feminism I see on the internet and the public is one which hates men. Every problem a female has is apparently because of men, and all men should be killed. Oh, how can I forget the #Kill all Men hash-tag that trended on twitter last year?

Another reason why I consider myself a humanist and not a feminist is because I don’t see feminism trying to solve the most important problems that women have. They don’t care about the fact that women don’t have basic rights in some countries. They don’t have time to care about the fact that some women aren’t even allowed to drive. And yet they have all the time in the world to send death threats to Simbu for his Beep Song, they have all the time in the world to theorize about how air conditioners are misogynistic and they have all the time in the world to fight for upper body nudity.

If someone can explain this clash between what feminists claim to stand for and what they actually campaign for, it would be greatly appreciated. Because what I believe is that, the dictionary definition for the word feminism has become something of an excuse which modern feminists use to advocate for complete nonsense when there are so many real problems which women still face which remain unnoticed.

Now I have a feeling that I am going to be hated by so many women for saying I am not a feminist, because I am a man, and I don’t know what these “problems” are. But maybe, just maybe, women getting killed matters a tad bit more than the fact that women in videogames have unrealistic proportions. Because I believe that one of those things are fictional and the other is very, very real.

Moving on from one controversial topic to another, Let me share my views on gay marriage. I am all for it. I am a supporter of the LGBT+ community and I happen to think that people of the same sex marrying each other is fine. The reason I support it is very complex, because, the one question I get a lot when I say that I support same sex relationships is how can I support something that I haven’t experienced.

Well here is the deal it doesn’t matter if I am part of the community. Just because I am not part of the community doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t support what they stand for. I support them because they stand for, among other things, they stand for individuality. I believe that you can be who you are, and you can love who you want. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to fit within the norm. You do you.

And in the end, all of this doesn’t matter because it is all about getting people to accept themselves and each other for what they identify as. Many consider all of this against nature, but hey it is all about love. If there is one thing that is special in the world, it is love. So, accept it with open arms, I say.

Now that I have spoken about two controversial topics, let’s move on to some lighter one; guilty
pleasures. For those of you don’t get what I am referring to, a guilty pleasure is something which you know is bad but you enjoy never the less. And I have a lot of those.
Maybe I can cover most of them here. My biggest guilty pleasure is probably mindless action movies. And I am not talking about really good ones like Mad Max Fury Road. I’m talking about really, really shitty action movies which I end up liking never the less. One such movie, which I have reviewed, is London has Fallen. Another guilty pleasure of mine which I have addressed before are the two Tomb Raider movies starring Angelina Jolie. Shut up and stop telling me that those movies are not technically good. They are totally awesome to watch. Tron Legacy, Sucker Punch and The Amazing Spiderman 2 are some of my other guilty pleasures.

When it comes to videogames there aren’t too many guilty pleasures that I have. The Amazing Spiderman games are probably one of the very few guilty pleasures that I have in games. When it comes to music, I really can’t call anything a guilty pleasure because different people have different tastes, more so than any other form of entertainment.

Speaking of something that is not controversial, I think it would be great to share what I am currently doing every day, other than sitting simply, sleeping and typing stuff and posting them online. I am currently binge watching Game of Throne. I started watching only this year and I am currently in the end of the third season. I am also trying to watch all of Satoshi Kon’s work. He is a really prominent anime director, whose works have influenced everyone from Christopher Nolan to Daren Aranofsky.
I listen to new artists, mostly by listening to whole albums in one sitting. I am currently listening to Christina Perri, Rachel Platten, Christina Grimme, and a whole slew of amateur artists which most people probably haven’t even heard of.

I am doing all of this while I continue to attend and cover new stage plays, press meets and award functions. Oh and I am playing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Spiderman Web of Shadows. As for the books I am reading, there are a ton of original stories which I am reading in Watt-pad and Fiction-press, and I am also following the new Tomb Raider and Wolverine comic series. I guess that covers what I am doing in my down time.

Let’s see, what else can I talk about now? I am working on an interesting story which I am not sure will see the light of day, but one can hope. Speaking of stories, for those of you who think that I plan out everything I write, write down to the words I use, I am sorry to say that you are mistaken. There is very little planning involved, and most of my process involves staring at a blank computer or laptop screen before inspiration strikes and I start typing. Once I have a basic idea, there is very little interruption when I write.

So there you go, my secret is out. I write like a chimpanzee throwing bananas at the wall hoping it sticks. I generally don’t revise my article until the very end, because I have the habit or correcting spelling mistakes as soon as they are typed and identified.

That’s all I have for this post. I hope that you liked reading my thoughts on some things. Let me know what you guys think of this post. Did it seen different, both in terms of structure and writing, or was it the same as always. Until next time;

Peace!!!
